The quacking of ducks from the Okkerville River immerses me in the legend about the creation of the world of the parent duck. The duck laid an egg, and out of it came the earth.
Quack, quack, quack. The ducks glide across the surface of the water so effortlessly, as if it were effortless, but in fact underwater, they are diligently moving their legs. In psychology, there is such a concept as the duck syndrome. When the outward appearance of prosperity, a person hides from serious anxiety. I find this condition to be linked to the times in which we live. Global change has displaced familiar reference points. The future has become blurred. And seems that society to have immersed into one big duck syndrome.
Through digital collages, I embed hyperbolized ducks in familiar landscapes and thus address personal and social anxieties frozen in the air.
I created the series within the framework of the project ‘Corner’ from the Library and the art residence ‘SHKAF’. This project became part of the site-specific exhibition of the same name. The element of viewers’ interaction with the collages was the search for ducks on a special map in the library space.
